Ramzi -Phobiza "Amor Fati" Vol.3

On the final Instalment of the sterling Phobiza trilogy, Vancouver’s Phoebe Guillemot (a.k.a. RAMZi) baptises the launch of her FATi imprint with a smoked-out ensemble of flirtations with the ‘fifth world’. As with previous iterations in the series, “Amor Fati” Vol. 3 invites the listener on a peyote-laced excursion through swirling dubbed-out wormholes and warped tribal rhythms, tracing the sonic expanse of Guillemot’s imagination.

Teaming up on tracks with fellow Vancouverites Hashman Deejay, Regularfantasy and Asael, RAMZi’s latest offering shares the off-kilter twang of the local musical climate. But do not be fooled by the familiar accent, “Amor Fati” Vol. 3 is a showcase of the distinct sound Guillemot has cultivated as an artist, blending an intercontinental palette of synthesised textures (as on ‘Piton’ and ‘Oxum’) with itinerant basslines (‘Tourtou’) and keen dance-music sensibility (check ‘Warhasu’ for proper garage-tinged groove). Moreover, “Amor Fati” Vol. 3 proves to be not just invigoratingly great music, but a rite of passage marking the coming of age of RAMZi’s singular vision.
